Making Some Cuts.

So – I was chatting with my roommate, Brian, and he put a little ‘bug’ in my ear about reading the bible more.
I’ve been really lacking/slacking in the past few months in actually digging in and reading.

Basically – I used to read for about 30-45 minutes a day and do that pretty regularly.
As of lately I have really been struggling to get 15 minutes in a day…sad.

I am just not motivated to get in the word – and I tend to get really easily distracted when I try to read in my iPad, or have music playing from my computer while I read.

So – Brian, in all his wisdom, suggested that I give up Twitter until I read the bible all the way thru.
A great idea – for sure.
But…I don’t know if that will be the best way.

Twitter is really a ministry tool of mine – 66,000+ people follow me and send me daily reminders and encouragements of how I encourage them in my silly tweets to live a bolder life for Christ.
So, I don’t think I am going to completely give up Twitter…but definitely cut back – and make sure that most of my time in my day is going to reading the word of God.
After all – if I am not being trained in how to live a bold life for Christ thru His word – then how can I authentically challenge others from a biblical perspective to do the same?
I can’t.

So – with all this being said – I am giving up Twitter (for the most part).
I am going to post tweets thru the day, and Instagram thru the day as well.
But as far as actually checking my Twitter and replying to tweets, I am totally giving that up for a while.

The plan – as it stands – is to read thru the bible at least once before the Summer is over.
I can read thru the bible much faster if I reallocate the time I usually spend on Twitter/Social Media to my bible.

I spend about 2-3 hours a day on Twitter/Facebook – the average reader takes 74 hours to read the bible all the way thru.
Basic math – and I can read thru the bible in a month if I just use the time I’d use on Twitter/FB in the word.

I am gonna give it a try.
A real try.
I need this.

If you could give me some encouragement on here thru a comment, or email me some of your favorite reading plans – that would rock. Or you could email me just to let me know how your day is going…that works too!

I am excited to see what comes of this.
I know that abiding in His word can only bring good.
Only bring change, godly change, which – if we are honest – we all need.

Much love to you,
And I can’t wait to go on this journey!

How about as you read or as you journey through the day of reading each morning you share what the reading plan is on your blog – Call it: “Project 31″ there are 31 days in the month of May and each day is a project of “closer living and reading in the Word!” I AM GOING TO FOLLOW YOU NO MATTER WHAT! I LOVE WHAT GOD IS DOING THROUGH YOU WITH YOUR TRANSPARENCY AS YOU DEAL WITH THE SIMPLE TRUTH OF US BEING HUMAN AND WE GET SIDE TRACKED BUT THERE IS A WAY BACK TO OUR FIRST LOVE….

    Love ya,

First off, I think that this is a great idea! Secondly, I think I am going to do something similar. My time spent on social media websites often overtakes my time spent reading and studying Scripture and just being still before God. Thanks for stepping forward and sharing this! I really needed to see that someone was going through similar stuff. Keep it up buddy!!

Just saw you followed me on twitter. If could follow more people I would follow you man. Actually i’ll remove a follower just so I Can follow you. I’ve hit some kind of limit where I can’t follow anyone else until my following count increases. has a lot of great plans. Most of them are short, but they have yearly ones too, which you can do in a shorter amount of time than a year.

There is a great 90 day reading plan at:

They also sell a bible that goes along with that plan that you do 12 pages a day and in 90 days you are done.

Great way to go through the entire thing in manageable pieces.

So far I think I am about on track with that. Read about 200 pages in the past 20 days or so.
      I feel really refreshed, actually!
Even though I am in the Old Test. it really is something that I love doing, now!

This is a superb idea. Thank you for following me on Twitter. I am thrilled to follow you back as a fellow believer.

Last year I had a similar situation. I decided that by reading the Bible cover-to-cover I would equip myself in a far better way. I read a few chapters every night and by the end of the year I had read the whole Book. All of the best in trying to do it in one month. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

    God bless!

Twitter is hard to give up!! Haha it’s so easy to get distracted and end up looking at it for an hour, if not more. But thanks for posting this, I needed to hear this. It’s a good reminder to keep my relationship with God my #1 priority.
