So – I was chatting with my roommate, Brian, and he put a little ‘bug’ in my ear about reading the bible more.
I’ve been really lacking/slacking in the past few months in actually digging in and reading.
Basically – I used to read for about 30-45 minutes a day and do that pretty regularly.
As of lately I have really been struggling to get 15 minutes in a day…sad.
I am just not motivated to get in the word – and I tend to get really easily distracted when I try to read in my iPad, or have music playing from my computer while I read.
So – Brian, in all his wisdom, suggested that I give up Twitter until I read the bible all the way thru.
A great idea – for sure.
But…I don’t know if that will be the best way.
Twitter is really a ministry tool of mine – 66,000+ people follow me and send me daily reminders and encouragements of how I encourage them in my silly tweets to live a bolder life for Christ.
So, I don’t think I am going to completely give up Twitter…but definitely cut back – and make sure that most of my time in my day is going to reading the word of God.
After all – if I am not being trained in how to live a bold life for Christ thru His word – then how can I authentically challenge others from a biblical perspective to do the same?
I can’t.
So – with all this being said – I am giving up Twitter (for the most part).
I am going to post tweets thru the day, and Instagram thru the day as well.
But as far as actually checking my Twitter and replying to tweets, I am totally giving that up for a while.
The plan – as it stands – is to read thru the bible at least once before the Summer is over.
I can read thru the bible much faster if I reallocate the time I usually spend on Twitter/Social Media to my bible.
I spend about 2-3 hours a day on Twitter/Facebook – the average reader takes 74 hours to read the bible all the way thru.
Basic math – and I can read thru the bible in a month if I just use the time I’d use on Twitter/FB in the word.
I am gonna give it a try.
A real try.
I need this.
If you could give me some encouragement on here thru a comment, or email me some of your favorite reading plans – that would rock. Or you could email me just to let me know how your day is going…that works too!
I am excited to see what comes of this.
I know that abiding in His word can only bring good.
Only bring change, godly change, which – if we are honest – we all need.
Much love to you,
And I can’t wait to go on this journey!
